LET YOUR FEET CHOOSE THE BEST SHOE TO SUIT YOU

At different times over the last few decades of selling shoes, there has been a shoe that seems to jump out into overwhelming popularity.
Popularity may mean it is a fad rather than an innovation, but if the shoe continues to succeed it is likely due to the technical performance features of that shoe.

The Brooks Ghost is one of those shoes.
It has gained steady growth over the last 11 years and has spanned the move towards the increasing use of neutral shoes.  The old paradigm of blocking pronation has been replaced by an understanding that there is an optimal amount of stability/control and softness/cushioning for each person.

Variables like comfort and a smooth ride have been shown to be effective when choosing the best shoe for injury-free running. Gait analysis of pronation/supination is no longer considered to be the best process to tell if a shoe suits a runner.

While the old paradigm was simple and easy to explain the way forward is to let your feet choose the best shoe to suit you.  Using this method the Brooks Ghost becomes ascendant.  It is simply one of the most comfortable shoes around.

WHAT KIND OF SHOE IS IT?
With a very flexible and neutral midsole, the Brooks Ghost lets your foot move without effort while supporting a high mileage running program.  It has a highly cushioned ride that is smooth from foot strike to toe-off.  It can suit moderate heel strikers through to forefoot strikers.  The lightweight is an added bonus and many runners have found it to be an effective racer as well as a trainer.

The Ghost has become so successful that Brooks has been able to bring out some limited editions like the PacMan colours and the NYC colours.  There is also a trail version – the Brooks Ghost GTX.

IS IT TIME TO REPLACE YOUR SHOES?
While the main running season is over that does not mean you should not replace your shoes.  As we move into the base phase you may consider trying trail running or work to improve your speed.  The Brooks Ghost can help you through to the start of the specific phase when the intraining runners school launches again in February. It is also better to update your shoes before they have completely worn out. You then use your new shoes for longer runs when injury risk is highest and relegate the old shoes to shorter runs.

THE LOW DOWN:
The Brooks Ghost is an exceptional neutral runner at the flexible end of the continuum. It is about matching your foot’s needs with a shoe.  If you are unsure about what shoes may suit you then book in for a podiatry consult at intraining.  Our experienced runner podiatrists can help you find the best shoe.
